Umu, Taro, Raw fish, Chop suey, Banana, Seafood salad, Rice,

Hook

Last Friday was a surprising day. Last Friday was the last day of Miss Haslem being with us and the last day of Samoan Language Week. Today we had an Umu. Miss Haslem was a student teacher who was with us for five weeks.

Orientation

Paragraph 1

Parents, Grandparents, Teachers and Siblings who were

involved in the Umu.

Mr T (school caretaker), Mr Tyrell (teacher),  Sierra’s Grandparents, Kola’s Grandma, Ayla and Aden’s parents, Tuvale and Joseph’s parents, Evie’s Mum, Ayla And Aden’s two older brothers Lawson and Aston and Tiare’s older sister Tausala.

Paragraph 2

In the morning when I came to school I saw Mr Tyrell and Joseph and Tuvale’s Dad in the hall. Mr Tyrell went on the court and got lava rocks. He was setting up the Umu. Andrea and Me were watching.

Paragraph 3

Once the bell rang we had prayer and we did writing. Then at 10:00AM we went to Room 6’s assembly in the hall. After we had the assembly we went outside to see the Umu. There were lots of flames.

Paragraph 4

Once we went back to class we did all the normal stuff. The bell rang for morning tea, that's when I remembered that Mr Tyrell said the Umu would be ready by lunchtime. At morning tea I played with my friends Ching, Jia, Sierra and Agnes.

Paragraph 5

When we were starting to do Maths Mr Tyrell said “Everyone’s coming to look at the Umu would you like to come too?”

We all said “YES!”.

I said yeah now we do not have to do any Maths. At the Umu they were taking the pork out of the Umu. Ayla and Aden’s Dad was taking out the pork from the hot Umu using his bare hands, everyone else was wearing heat gloves.

Paragraph 6

After morning tea we went back to class and did some learning. Five minutes before the lunchtime bell rang Mr Tyrell came to our classroom and asked us to come outside. We sat on the court. All the Samoan children, parents, grandparents, siblings and teachers sang the Samoan national anthem.

Paragraph 7

At the Umu there was Chop suey, Rice, Oka, Crab salad, Taro, Raw fish, Banana, Pork buns and Pork.

Here are some pictures of the Umu

My Athletics Recount

 Hook

Lucky us last Thursday our school had athletic sports day. We did a lot of activities. The people in my group were Kori, Jia, Emanuel, Ken.P, Kian, Dwight, Timmnet, Siaki and Kasaya.

Orientation

The first thing we did was throw the gumboot. The years 4,5 and 6 students had to throw the big gumboot. The juniors were lucky since they were small they were allowed to throw the small gumboot. Kori got the longest throw. The bell rang. Our second station was the egg and spoon race with Virginia. Virginia said that we will not be using our mouth. I knew it was because of

Coronavirus we held the spoon and ran to our partner on the other side. After that Virginia said that we would put a potato on a spoon but then Virginia said that we ran out of  time. Virginia gave us a three because we were listening. The next station was long jump. At long jump I kept on getting the same score whenever I jumped. The bell rung. Our team's next station was catch the tail, we got a velcro belt. Then we got a tail. We stuck it on the back of our velcro belt. I liked being a tagger. The bell rang for morning tea. After morning tea we went to Owen and Mia. They were leading the bean bag race. The juniors were lucky they got to stand closer to the bucket. The funny part about it was me and Siaki were cheating and standing in the middle. In another part of the game Siaki was standing in the juniors spot acting like a junior. The bell rang. Our sixth station was skipping with Mrs Heimuli I did not really like skipping race. I found it boring but I still participated. For some reason even though we were good Mrs Heimuli gave us two marks. Our last session was potato sack race. I found the potato sack race fun. My buddy was Dwight. The bell rung for lunch. After lunch were the final games. First were the sprints. In sprints I came third. In Tug of War my house Te Tatua won no games

Conclusion

Overall I had a great day at the school athletic sports.

Tivaevae Patterns Description

This is my Tivaevae Mat.

I used two different coloured sheets of paper, a pencil, and some scissors.

I am pleased with my Tivaevae Mat because it shows symmetry, reflection and rotation.

I found this task ok because it was easy to draw but not so easy to cut out.

My Water Care recount

Hook:
Wow I can’t believe that Water Care came to our school.
Our teacher’s  name was  Sarah. Well I guess it is worth it to
have an early lunch.

Orientation:
Sarah taught us about how people used to go to the toilet in
the olden days. In the olden days they would have a pot
(chamber pot) under their bed to go the toilet in. Some men
came to collect it for money and others just threw it outside.
If people stayed in a hotel a chambermaid would come and
collect the waste and throw it into the river on Queens
Street.

After this we did some experiments. The first experiment
was with lightweight rocks. In my group we made four
mountains. We had to make a group guess on how many rivers
would be formed. We guessed four rivers and we were right.
The second one was with water in small containers. We had
containers of water.  Sarah put engine oil, dishwashing liquid,
food scraps, paint and cooking oil to prove how easy it is to
pollute water.

Paragraph 3
She told us about manholes. She also said you should be
careful around them and if you see one open you should tell
your parents. The purpose of the manhole is so that the
workers can clean and fix the pipes.

Conclusion

Although some of the lesson was yuck I had a great time and
I had learnt new things.

Matariki Poster

This is my Matariki poster. Miss Paton read us some information on Matariki and we had to write notes on it. From there we had to reconstruct our version of the text.

Heart map writing

Once upon a time there lived two sisters named Roxane and Selestia. It was their last day of school and since it was their last day of school they were going to have lots of fun. The next day 14 July they wanted to go pick strawberries in the forest so they asked their parents. They said yes as long as they came back after dusk. So they went to the strawberry bushes in the forest,  but it seemed like they went the wrong way and they got lost. They spent the night there. Someone came up to them and said are you lost? Do you need some help? Then they found out in the morning that it was their mum and dad and from that day on they never went into the forest without their parents.

Dams dictogloss

A dam blocks water in a river or a stream so it must pass over a barrier.

Dams are built across a stream or an estuary to retain water.

Most Dams are multi purpose. They prevent flooding. Dams help to generate
electricity.

Water care operates 14 supply reservoirs. Five of them are in Waitakere
Ranges, two of them are near Helensville, four are in Hunua Ranges and 1 in
Papakura.

The dams supply 80% of Auckland’s water. They are built with earth and rock.

The water treatment plants are used to clean the water.

my favourite bunny

I have a toy Bunny. His name is Bunny. I got him from Manukau Westfield Mall. When we went into the mall, my Dad went missing. We were looking for him. When he came back he had a giant bunny on his back. Bunny has a pink tie. He is white in colour  and the sole of his feet is pink. One night Bunny came to life. I started playing with him and then we did so many fun things. We talked and told stories to each other and then we fell asleep. When I woke up the next morning, I realised it was all a dream

The worried jellyfish

Once upon a time there lived worried jellyfish whose name was Roxanne. She
lived in the world of fantasy. The world of fantasy is called that because in it
everything is possible. The worried jellyfish who lived there was on a quest to catch
a green alien with her four friends whose names were Timothy, Maddison, Matthew
and Milly. They were going on the quest with Roxanne but she forgot to tell them
what the quest was. Roxane said “We’re on a quest to catch a green alien”.
Then Milly said “Umm but how are we going to do that?”.
“Ahh did you forget that they were in a fantasy world?”.
Everything is possible. You can do anything. “Oh yeah I did forget that”
said Milly. So they went off on a hunt to find a green alien. First they swam through
a river, then hiked through a forest and had some food and a drink. Then it was night
time, so they slept.

The next day they found a spaceship and they went into space. They saw the green
alien. The green alien was near the sun, so it was so super hot. They had to wear a
protective suit to protect them from the heat. The spaceship was pretty cool. This
spaceship was amazing. We had a space to put the alien in, so we didn't have to
worry about it. Luckily we took all the green aliens weapons away so that makes it
easy. They went back home and they showed everyone the green alien. Everybody
thanked them for catching the green alien. Everyone was cheering and thanking
them.   The mayor told them that the green alien tried to steal the sun, so they were
given a prize. The prize was a trophy. In the trophy they got lots of yummy candy, so
this solved the mystery of the green alien who was trying to steal the sun.
