Last Friday was a surprising day. Last Friday was the last day of Miss Haslem being with us and the last day of Samoan Language Week. Today we had an Umu. Miss Haslem was a student teacher who was with us for five weeks.

Orientation

Paragraph 1

Parents, Grandparents, Teachers and Siblings who were

involved in the Umu.

Mr T (school caretaker), Mr Tyrell (teacher),  Sierra’s Grandparents, Kola’s Grandma, Ayla and Aden’s parents, Tuvale and Joseph’s parents, Evie’s Mum, Ayla And Aden’s two older brothers Lawson and Aston and Tiare’s older sister Tausala.

Paragraph 2

In the morning when I came to school I saw Mr Tyrell and Joseph and Tuvale’s Dad in the hall. Mr Tyrell went on the court and got lava rocks. He was setting up the Umu. Andrea and Me were watching.

Paragraph 3

Once the bell rang we had prayer and we did writing. Then at 10:00AM we went to Room 6’s assembly in the hall. After we had the assembly we went outside to see the Umu. There were lots of flames.

Paragraph 4

Once we went back to class we did all the normal stuff. The bell rang for morning tea, that's when I remembered that Mr Tyrell said the Umu would be ready by lunchtime. At morning tea I played with my friends Ching, Jia, Sierra and Agnes.

Paragraph 5

When we were starting to do Maths Mr Tyrell said “Everyone’s coming to look at the Umu would you like to come too?”

We all said “YES!”.

I said yeah now we do not have to do any Maths. At the Umu they were taking the pork out of the Umu. Ayla and Aden’s Dad was taking out the pork from the hot Umu using his bare hands, everyone else was wearing heat gloves.

Paragraph 6

After morning tea we went back to class and did some learning. Five minutes before the lunchtime bell rang Mr Tyrell came to our classroom and asked us to come outside. We sat on the court. All the Samoan children, parents, grandparents, siblings and teachers sang the Samoan national anthem.

Paragraph 7

At the Umu there was Chop suey, Rice, Oka, Crab salad, Taro, Raw fish, Banana, Pork buns and Pork.
